He coped very well throughout- breakfast was over by 7.32 and he thought his luck was in when offered TWO cups of juice just after 9. He didn't complain he was hungry at all (and I was starving having had a snack!) and after lots of preliminary chats with various staff (including the surgeon who acknowledged it was likely to have some effect on his speech Yay!) he went accross to theatre at 2pm- with crocodile who also got a mask to help him sleep!
I should at this point mention we had been contracted out to a private hospital (to reduce waiting lists), which was very well organised, private room, free drinks and sandwiches for us (I took a friend for much needed company- a long afternoon!- double bonus with her being a children's nurse so could tell me what was normal etc). SO we'd been told 2pm and 2pm it was!!
He came back to us at about 3 but slept til 5, so- a long afternoon! An initially confused, dopey boy soon perked up at the offer of Bob the Builder DVD plus ice lolly, closely followed by sandwich, ice cream and biscuits 'my not had much food' was his response, I wonder what he'll ask for tomorrow! We then watched aThomas DVD before being able to leave just after 7. He pretty much bounced out (having bounced around this morning), eagerly clutching a lollipop for the way home!
It clearly feels strange and at times sore- we've stockpiled a few DVDs for distraction over the next few days and see how we go. He's coped really well today, we'll take each day as it comes. Haven't yet told him he has to stay off kindy for 2 weeks (on top of the 2 week holidays we've just had)....... I'll need a holiday when he goes back!
