Another sense of children growing up is that we've enrolled C in swimming lessons starting next week. He's positive about it at the moment- we'll see how he reacts when asked to put his face in the water! (bought some goggles today on recommendation- he's looking forward to trying them out tomorrow!).
The return to kindy this week has been positive. There's been less than half numbers as most schools haven't yet returned, which has helped his confidence- he's even been reported to speak at mat time (its only taken a year!). He's also had some positive cooperation with a slightly older child in the sandpit- and we've had quite a lot of reporting from C about what they've been doing which is nice. I've struggled to get up in the mornings though (should go to bed earlier)- C says 'should you be getting up Mummy?' and then tells me to get up until I do- who needs a snooze alarm?! L spends most of the morning asking where C and Daddy are, but I think is enjoying getting to play on her own terms!
We're in the midst of summer public holidays at the moment, having had one on Monday and another Friday next week. On Monday we went to watch some of the 'Anniversary Day Regatta' on the harbour- lots of boats. C's highlight was a Tug Boat race, but here's a picture of one of the sailing races (with a couple of rowing boats in the foreground):
I've almost given up trying to get photos of us on the beach or out and about- the hats just get in the way!!
After a good look at the boats, we decamped to the closest beach for a welcome picnic in the shade and a paddle. I again found myself very grateful that we live so near the sea- a paddle is just the ticket on a hot day!
