We had Pukekos (native NZ bird walks a bit like a chicken but with longer legs!) in the garden last week at breakfast time.
The children were fascinated- but after intial interest, I'm thinking they're less and less welcome- they trample the veggie garden- that I'd at last done some tending and planting of, and they eat too- the latter is what I've learnt from reading- all I've seen them eat is grass that's gone to seed- but I don't trust them!! I'm hoping they were just visiting as normal foodstuffs were getting low with the drought (yes even in Auckland though I think its been broken over the past couple of days of rain- we've hardly had any this year), though I've often seen them the other side of the fence!
