Awe and Wonder

Yesterday we went down to Hamilton to see the 'night glow' at the Balloons over Waikato Festival. Friends of ours had been there all week- one family owns a balloon and our house mates were helping crew for them. Nearly 2 hours drive each way isn't something we'd often do for a couple of hours entertainment but it was worth it!

So what's a nightglow? It's basically a show with balloons using their flares to light themselves up in time to music. So imagine 20 balloons on the ground lighting up- in fact stop imagining- I'll post a poor video clip!!

C having spent most of the day asking where the hot air balloons were (and I think a little disappointed when he heard they wouldn't be taking off) was impressed, as were Mum and Dad. L was restless but vaguely amused until the firework display started when she was fascinated- she has a wonderful way of communicating at the moment using facial expression, pointing and nodding, and this was definately a face of 'awe' -she loved it (C was unimpressed at this point and didn't much like the bangs). We were impressed too and it's probably the first firework display we've seen since being here (nov 5th being in summer doesn't work with young kids- it doesn't get dark til late!).

Has inspired us to save up for a trip up in said friend's balloon........
